Encausto Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9/8/2026
This policy describes how the Encausto mobile app, presented by Infinite Fine Arts, handles your photos and personal information. It applies specifically to the Encausto app — for how our website uses cookies and browsing data, see our general Privacy Policy.
What Encausto collects
To generate your preview portrait, Encausto asks for:
- A selfie photo of you (or someone you're creating a portrait for)
- A photo of an artwork whose colors you'd like used as a reference
- A photo of the wall where you'd like to preview the portrait
You can either take these photos directly in the app, or choose existing photos from your device's photo library.
How your photos are used
Your selfie and artwork reference photos are sent to our server, which forwards your selfie to OpenAI, along with our encaustic style and pattern variations, to create your Encaustic-style portrait. Nothing is saved to disk or a database at any point — your photos are processed entirely in memory for the duration of that single request and discarded immediately afterward. Before your photo is sent, the app shows you a clear on-screen notice naming OpenAI and explaining this use, and asks you to confirm before continuing.
OpenAI processes your photo solely to help create your Encaustic-style portrait and is contractually and technically bound to handle it with protections consistent with this policy; it is not used to train OpenAI's models. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data during processing.
The wall photo, and the portrait placement preview built from it, stay on your device — they aren't sent to our servers unless you choose to save that preview image to your own photo library.
Face data
Encausto does not perform facial recognition, biometric measurement, or facial landmark extraction on your photos, on your device or on our servers. Your selfie is treated as a standard image file — it is used only to generate an Encaustic-style artistic rendering, not to identify, verify, or analyze facial features.
If you choose to commission a piece
Encausto never sends anything to our studio automatically. Only if you choose to commission a physical piece, we send:
- Your approved portrait image and any notes you provide, to Resend (our email provider), to notify our studio of your order
- Your order and payment details to Shopify, to create your order and process your deposit payment
We do not sell or share your photos with advertising partners, and none of the data described above is used for targeted advertising.
Permissions the app requests
- Camera — to take your selfie, artwork reference, and wall photos
- Photo library (read) — to let you choose existing photos instead of taking new ones
- Photo library (save) — to save your wall-placement preview to your device, if you choose to
Your choices
You can decline any camera or photo library permission and still use the parts of the app that don't require it. If you'd like a photo or order removed after you've submitted a commission request, contact us and we'll take care of it.
